What We Do
The Children's Advocacy Center of Monroe County (CAC) is a child-focused center that coordinates the investigation, prosecution, treatment and support of child abuse victims and their supportive caregivers. The CAC provides victims with medical exams and counseling referrals as needed. CAC cases undergo case review by the Multidisciplinary Investigative Team.
Healing
The CAC offers healing by providing a medical exam to each child victim to assess their well-being and look for signs of abuse. Any necessary medical treatment is also arranged. Also, counseling and therapy services are coordinated for victims and their caregivers, to help them deal with the emotional trauma they have suffered.
Hope
The CAC offers hope by coordinating investigations so victims and their caregivers are prepared for any legal proceedings that may occur. A single interview is conducted by a trained forensic interviewer eliminating the need for multiple discussions of traumatic events.
Support
Victims are offered support throughout the legal process, enabling them to achieve validation by holding offenders accountable.
Education
CAC's also promote community education and child abuse prevention, empowering victims and increasing community awareness about the issues involved in child abuse and its prevention and treatment.
The Forensic Interview
